Jazz Fest Victoria 2009 Lineup Announced

The lineup for the 2009 Jazzfest Victoria has finally been announced. This year’s festival runs from Friday June 26 – Sunday July 5th. While last year’s lineup would be incredibly tough to top, festival organizers have once again done an amazing job attracting world class artists to their festival from diverse musical backgrounds. One of the Music of My Mind’s favorites, UK soulstress Alice Russell will open the festival on June 26th. Other highlights include Nigerian Juju legend King Sunny Ade and His African Beats, UK bandleader, producer and DJ, Quantic as well as Aussie soul from Blue King Brown and legendary Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes. Celebrate Record Store Day 2009, this Saturday April 18 at independent music retailers across Canada and all over the world. Here in Victoria, celebrate Record Store Day at Ditch Records on Johnson Street. There will be special deals and exclusive records and CDs available only on Saturday, including the new compilation This LP Crashes Hard Drives featuring great music from Light in the Attic, Numero Group and Vampisoul labels. Israeli musician/producer extraordinaire Kutiman has recently blown away our definitions of what a mashup can be, mashing up multiple Youtube videos into his own original song and video, and true work of art.
